In tlie Reichstag Count Herbert Bismarck saiii the German East African Company had proved a failure, and it was necessary that the Empire should intervene in earryitit? out the colonisation scheme in East Africa. Prince Bismarck said Germany would only pursue a clonial policy which was in accord with England, an old historical ally, and the greatest colonising Power in the world. Carrying out that policy, Germany and England were advancing hand in hand s'i far a.s affected Samoa, and Zinzioar. Personally he was opposed to adding fresh colonies but the locomotive of the Empire had chosen a track which it was now impossible to impede, and he disapproved of any delay. January 28. It is considered certain that the K.ixt African Company Bill will be carried by tlie Reichstag.
