WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL
The usual monthly meeting of the Waikato County Council was hold at the Council Chambers at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. Present: Cts. Primrose (chairman), Seddon, Steele, Barugb, anil Johnson. SottUß Exterminator.— A letter was received from Messrs Hurst and Co., stat ing that they would forward a 201b sample box of the scrub-exterminator. They state that their object in introducing the destroyer is not so much for pecuniary gain, as a sincere desire to benefit the country genorally by eradicating the noxious pests which cause the agriculturists so much trouble and annoyance. A second letter was received from Messrs Hurst and Co., stating that the b.ix had been forwarded, and the clerk was instructed to liavo the Sample properly tested, and to advertise the time and place at which the trial will be made. Model Farms.—The following letter was received from Mr S. P. Smith, SurveyorGeneral. " With regard to your Council acquiring a portion of Lot 419 Town of Hamilton East to add to the Agricultural Reserve (which appears to bo very desirable) this section being a lot set apart for secondary Education, vide New Zealand Gazette ISSS p.p. 1337, you will require to apply to the Education Reserves Commissioners through their secretary, Mr 11. B. Garland. If the matter is referred to me, I shall bo happy to advance your interests in the direction you mention."—On the motion of Cr. Steele, sreonded by Cr. Seddon, it was resolved that the chairman and clerk proceed to Auckland for the purpose of interviewing tho Education Commissioners on tho subject. Public Works. —A circular was received stating that the Pnbl'C Works Department had been abolished and that in future all communications with reference to acquiring lands, &c., must be made to tiie Minister of Lands. Traction Engine.—The draft of the proposed hy-law for regulating tho traffic of traction engines was submitted. Some of the clauses did not meet with tho approval of the Council, and tho Chairman was requested to support these objections at the meeting of delegates. Road. —Tho work of making the road to Col. Burton's property was left in the hands of Cr. Johnson. Hospital Rate.—The Chairman said he thought that for the present year tho Hospital rate would not be much more than half tho sum paid for tho past year. Fl'kze.— I The Clerk was ordered to instruct the Engineer to proceed to Rangiriri and report as to persons who have not cut tho furze growing on tho road in front of their properties, in accordance with notice given. ■Payment*.—J.
