(BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT. Auckland, Wednesday. Messrs Owen and Guaham's warehouse, offered at auction to-day, was withdrawn at £8,500.
A fire, at Onehunga, destroyed a cottaga owned by Margatat Black. It was insured in the New Zealand office for £100, and the furniture for £25,
At the Supreme Court to-day, Susan Symons appeared before Dr. Giles, R.M., to answer a charge of having wilfully failed to provide for tho support of her illegitimate child. Dr. Giles said it appeared to be a most cruel and heartless case, and he would not be assisting the ends of justice if he did not punish her. It was evident that tho mother of the child had been earning good wages, and had come to town to spend her holidays and enjoy herself, and yet had never been near her child. Under the circumstance he would sentence her to one month's imprisonment with hard labour, and also order hor to pay 3s Gd per week towards the support of tho child in future.
