COUNTY COUNCILS AND CONTRACTORS.
TO THE KDITOII. Sill, —Allnw me space to show a serious grievance whish contractors have against the Waioa County Council. They invariably call for tenders for several jobs at once ; they require a deposit on each job, and tho contractors have to find the cash, no matter where, l'oasibly I, as a contractor, f, r ot none (if the job.', being second nr third. Instead of my deposit, being returned, I have to lend the depo-ot money for two or three uiMiiths to the Council, which is about the time they take to return it. If all the Councils and Road Boards adopt the same practice, they will have a moo little sutii of contracting' money. Very good for them, but how about the contractor who may require his money to seek other jobs with ? Possibly some contractors are prepared to stand out of their money, but some might prefer lendinp the Wai pa County Council some spare cash which would perhaps enable them to return unsuccessful contractors'deposits. Hoping they in particular will consider the contractors a little in the matter.—l am, etc., COXTUAOTOR. Kihikihi, 7th January, 1S3!).
