WAITOA ROAD BOARD.
The Phoenix Hotel, Morrinsville, where the Waitoa Road Board held its meetings, having been completely destroyed by fire on the morning of the 12th insfc, the board at its monthly meeting on Friday last, met bes : de the debris of the Phoenix Hotel, and then adjourned to the Nottingham Castle. Present: Messrs W. P. Chopmell (in the chair), E. W. Hunmer, J. Horrell and J. Turnbull.
Gravel-pit.—Among the correspondence was a copy of a memorandum sent'to the Commissioner of Crown Lands re the Board's application for a gravel-pit in the town of Te Aroha, and a memorandum received from the Commissioner in reply, reporting that sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 13,14, 15 and 10, of block 15, town of Te Aroha, have been set apart as a gravel reserve, and that the Waitoa Road Board has the sa.ue right as any other public body to ,ke gravel therefrom. Native Lands.—A copy of a letter sent to the Piako County Council wa» read, reporting that the Waitoa Road Board is willing to undertake the expenditure ef the county rates on Native Lands within the Waitoa Riding. Road Wouks.—The Engineer reported on the works which require to be done on the Ngutumanga Road, and he was instructed to get the said works done, the cost not to exceed £9. He also reported that 0. McCabe had finished his contract on the main road at Avonilale; that J. Orr had finished his contract on the main road near Morrinaville ; that D. Bell has nearly finished the improvements on the road from Morrinsville towards the Piako bridge to Mangatapu, and a portion of the Maungakawa road as far as the railway crossing; that J. Shaw is going on with the bridges on the Scotchman's Valley road ; that U. Murphy is progressing with his contract on the Stanley road ; and that A. Bremner is going on svith road formation in the Te Awo Waikato Block, and on roads through Bell's Waikuku Blocks. Damagr to Road.—The Board received complaints re damage being dp«> by pigs to the road between the properti<3!f J. Hunt and I). Anderson, at Richmond, and on the road near the Waihou saleyards.—The clerk was instructed to write to the parties to whom the pigs were said to belong, and request thorn to prevent pigs from rooting on tl e road.
