HAMILTON SPORTS.
TO TUB KDITOR. Sir, —I see by your issue of the 11th inst. that the Hamilton Sports Committee have decided to hold the sports in future at Claudelands instead of the old stand 011 Sydney Square. Your report is not a full one, but I can well imagine that tho arguments in favour of such action on the Committeo's part would be most cogent. In the first place, to my mind, it has the effect of disarming any adverse criticism in the shape of objections that the sports are got up in the interests of any individual publican, and this has always in the past militated most seriously against the thorough popularity of the sports. I conclude also that the spectators will have the use of the stand, from which to vieiv the various events, and any one talcing his family for the day's outing may do so without that fear of crushingjand crowding —so objectionable to females and children — and with the certainty of seeing tho races. Another inducement for those at a distance to attend is the fact that the excursion train will put the people actually on the ground and take them away again without fear of missing the train. From a competitor's point of view the change has much to recommend it, in the fact that the public can bo kept off the track, and that dressing accommodation will be provided in the stand. Doubtless there will he a few interested people who will view the change adversely, but that innst be expected, I am sure that generally the action of the Committee will be. approved of by the public, and that though meeting with some Blight opposition now, in future years they will be able to make the Hamilton annual sports what they ought to be—second to none in the province.— Yours truly, J. S.
