HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of tho Hamilton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers, on Tuesday evening, immediately after tho meeting of the Domain Board. There were present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr Isaac Coates), in the chair, and Crs. Knox, Tippen, Salmon, Wood, Bell, von Stunner, and Jones. Leave. —CrKnox apologised for tho nonattendance of Cr. Missen, and leavo of absence was granted to him.
Cook street Duai.W-A letter was received from Mr H. H. Metcalfe, agreeing to take £1 Is in payment for his services at the Cook-street drain. The letter was adopted. FosTI'ATH. —Mr McSvveeney asked that tho footpath lately formed to his place be gravelled, as othevwiso it is of no use. Letter received.
Poundkkbpkk's Report.—The poundkeeper reported that during last month 18 head of cattlo had been impounded, and that he had received the following monies: —Poundage fees, £7 ">■! Gd ; Hamilton Must Commonage, Is; Hamilton West Commonage, Gs; Bradley's paddock, los ; 1 duplicate collar. Is. Total, £1 3s. The report was received and adopted. Tenders.—'The following tenders were received and dealt with: —Carting: R. Waite, 1 horse dray and man per day, 7s Id ; per half day, -4s ; per quarter-day, 2s (jd ; per load, Is Gd ; 2 horse dray and man per day, 10s ; per half-day, Th ; per quarterday, 3s ; per load, Is Gd. T. Jones, 1 horse dray ani mail per day, 7s Gd ; per half-day, 4s ; per quarter-day, 2s Gd ; per load, Is Gd ; 2 horse dray and man per day, 10s Gd ; per half-day, (is ; per quarter-day, 3s Gd ; per load, 2s. \V. H. Kelly, 1 horse drr.y and man per day, 7s Gd ; per half day, 4s ; per quarter-day, 2s Gd ; per load, Is Gd ; 2 horse dray and man per day, 10s; per half day, "h ; per quarter day, 3a; per load, 2s.— Cr. Tippen moved that the tender of R. Waite be accepted.—Seconded by Cr. von Stunner and carried. —Lamp Lighting.—H. Kelly, 3d per lamp per night; G. Mayes, senr., 3d; J. Devitt, 3d.—On the motion of Cr. Salmon, seconded by Cr. Bell, G. M.tves' tender was accepted.— Dos Collars.— Jas. Reid, G.'.d per collar ; R. Peat, 7d.— Mr Reid's tender was accepted on the motion of Cr. Bell.—Seconded by CrKnow —Gravel.—R. Waite: Hamilton West, lOd per yard; Hamilton Eist, 10.1 per yard. T.Jones: Hamilton West, lOd per yard ; Hamilton East, 9.1 per yard less 10s off lump sum of contract.—Cr. Bell moved that T. Jones' tender be accepted. — Seconded by Cr. Knox and carried.—Cr. Knox moved that as soon as the bonds .'ire signed by the successful tenderers their deposits be returned.—Seconded by Cr. Salmon and carried. Patronage .—A letter was received from Captain lloid asking the patronage of the Council at a complimentary concert to be tendered to MrG. P. Mettamon Tuesday, the 10th instant. The request was acceded to.
Limukv.— An application was received from the Hamilton Library Committee for an advance of £20 for the purpose of purchasing new books and carrying 011 the current expenses of the Library.—Cr. Knox moved that the sum of £20 bo advanced.— Seconded by Cr. von Stunner. —Cr. Bell moved as an amendment that £5 be grantod.—Seconded by Cr. Jones. As the mover and seconder alone voted for the amendment it was declared lost, and the motion, for which the voting was vice versa, was carried. Messrs John Parr and J. G. Panned forwarded their resignation as member and Hon. Sec. respectively on the Library Committee. The resignations were accepted, and Messrs Sandes, Day and Gelling were elected on the Library Committee.
Lamps.—Cr. Knox moved that all the lamps in the borough, except three on the bridge and one at the brick culvert near Vincent's drain, be dono away with until tho 30th April, ISBU.— Seconded by Cr. von Stunner and carried.
Lath Sitting.—lt now being 10 o'clock tho following business was declared urgent and proceeded with. Payments.—Tho following payments were authorised :—Friar and Davies, 8s ; John Parr, fis lid ;H. H. Metcalfe, £1 ; T. G. Sandes, £1 1*; W. M. Hav, £7 IBs !>d ; 1). Lees, £1 Is (Jd ; J. Dixon, £1 2s Cd ; 11. Kelly. £2 IG< 9d.
PoUN'DKKKI'KIt.—Cr. Knox moved that the poundkeeper received a months' notice of the termination of his services.— Seconded by Cr. Tippon. On being put, the voting was as follows:—For: The Mayor, Crs. Knox, Tippon and von Stunner; against: Crs. Jones, Bell, Wood and Salmon. The voting being equal, tho Mayor gave his casting vote in favour of the motion, which was therefore carried. Leave.— Leave of absence was granted to His Worship the Mayor to attend to his private business 111 Palmerston. This concluded the urgent business, and the Council adjourned to Wednesday, the 19th inst., at noon.
