[BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.— COPYRIGHT.] Sydney, December 9. The Government have decided' that New Soutb Wales shall not be represented at the Paris Exhibition. Mrs Collins has been sentenced to death for the murder of her second husband, A watchmaker named Williams has invented a, parachute, and to-day at Ashfield, he ascended in a balloon five thousand feet, from which ho descende:l easily and gracefully without the slightest injury. The weather is now fine and warm. December 10. Extensive bush fires are raging in the vicinity of Albany, and the town was in considerable danger for some time. Lord Carrington to-day laid the foundation stone of a monument to the memory of Dr. Lang.
Brisbane, December 8. The foul which occurred in the Grand Intercolonial Sculling contest between Searle, Beach and Matterson, in which Beach was awarded first place, has led to a good deal of ill-feeling, and Beach has expressed his determination not to row in the final heat owing to the conduct of Searle, who he considers forced the foul. The tactics of the champion and his trainer, Matterson, have met with general disapproval. The final heat will be rowed on Tuesday.
Perth, December 10. The Legislative Council has been prorogued. The Governor in his speech alluded to the proposition for a change in the constitution. He considered the expense would be heavy, and it was doubtful whether the revenue would warrant any change at present. He suggested operations should be delayed till the financial position ot the colony had improved. Adelaide, December 10. Parliament has been prorogued, Melbourne, December 10. It is believed that the deficit on the Exhibition will amount to £200,000. The Australian eleven in their first innings made 274 runs, Edwards 51, McDonnell 39, Trott 50, and Jones 44 being the highest scorers. The Victorian eleven in their second innings have two wickets down for 7.
