FROZEN MEAT.
[by telegraph.—press association - .] Wellington, Friday. The details of the scheme elaborated in London by Messrs KUworth, Davidson and others for the sale and carriage of frozen meat from this colony, mentioned in the cable news six weeks ago, were received by the Rimutaka's mail, and discussed in Wellington by representatives of the various shipping companies. The following are the main features :—First : The meat is to be paid for in cash upon shipment at the rate of 2|d per lb and frozen free on board at the rate charged in Christchurch for freezing. This practically means ljd to the grower as the minimum, no matter what price may rule in England. Second : The above applies up to the average price realised in London of 4£d. Of what may be got over this amount forty per cent, goes to the grower, over 3d eighty per cent. On these terms, provided the average London price is 4£d, the g: • .vers would receive 2.W, the frozen freight would be Id, and London charges including marine insurance against all risks would be !>d. The same return to the growers rules up to an average London price of 4Jd, but freight and London charges gain tho advantage of the rise, the former being then 1 3-10 d above 4Jd and up to sd, the grower receives l-10d for every farthing rise which at an average price in London of 4jj'd leaves him 2Jd. At Od growers recoive 2jd and eighty per cent, of all excess over 3d. The basis of tho proposals is that the growers of New Zealand shall receive a good minimum price with participation in all improvements in the London markets, while the steamers shall be freed from the presont uncertainty of procuring cargo. The scheme has already been favourably commented on hgro,
