OHINEMURI.

Mining News.— As is usual, just prior to the Christmas holidays, mining matters are very dull. The local tributes are Retting a few small Christmas crushings ready, but there is little being done in the larger mines. At Waihi, Mr J. W. Walker has just made a preliminary run with his plant, which, however, will scarcely be in permanent going order until after the holidays The owners of the Britannia claim are on very good dirt, and should have a fair crushing. The same applies to the tributers in the Martha extended. At Waitekauri, tho mad to the Jubilee mine has just been finished, and Mr Cooper will immediately proceed to bring the plant from Te Aroha, where it now is awaiting shipment. The battery aud pans will be worked by steam power. At Owharoa Farmer and party are crushing with a fair show of success. Parkes' Furnack.— TheParkes' furnace at Karangahake is still closed down. The owners are very reticent as to the reason, but it is evident that in some details the affair is not as yet successful. Wo understand that a modification of the plant ia to be made, which, it is hoped, will oe more successful. Kauan'OAHAkic — The Adeline leader is looking well at Karangahake and good work is also being done in the Crown. The Late Accident.—Mr Alfred Shepherd, Karangahake, who was recently thrown from his horse and severely hurt while returning from a funeral, is now somewhat better, although not by any means out of danger. He has been attended by Dr. Cooper, surgeon of To Aroha, who has been most assiduous in his attention, and it is hoped will pull his patient through. Action for Damages.—l understand that a summons has been issued by Mr Mat. Dickey, owner of Libeller (who recently died here) against Mr R. Browne, owner of Keuilworth, for damages in a considerable amount for trespass. It is said that the trespass resulted in the death of Libeller. The case will be heard at Paeroa shortly before Mr Northcroft, Waihi Bridge.— Messrs Nicholls, Rob : son, and other members i,( the Ohinemun County Council paid a visit yesterday to the proposed site of the Waihi bridge, a highly necessary work, which it is proposed shortly to carry out. Dmir Cleared On:— I am glad to be able to state that notwithstanding the bad times the Ohinemuri County Council have been enabled to pay off the last instalment of the Auditor-Geueral's award of £2.000 to the Thames Countv.
