FIRE AT HAMILTON EAST.

At half-past 1 o'clock yesterday morning, the four-roomed cottage and detached buildings of Mrs Lees, the nurse, situated in Firth-street, Hamilton East; were destroyed by Hie, together with all the contents. Mrs Lees was away from home, the only occupant of the dwelling buing her son, John, a young man of nineteen years. Hβ states that he left a fire smouldering in the kitchen fireplace when he went to bed, and that there was no appearance of any risk about it. When he was awakened bytheamokoand flames, he had barely time to escape out of tho window. The house was insured in the New Zealand Insurance Office for £200, and the furniture for £150.
