RAGLAN.

• The annual meeting of the Raglan County Council was held at the Council Chambers, Raglan, on Wednesday, 28th November. Present: Crs. McGuirk, Sherrett, Mathias, Langley, Mitchell and Brooks Chairman : Proposed by Cr. Brooks, seconded by Cr. Sherrett, that Cr. Mitchell be elected to the chair. Carried unanimously. The Chairman returned thanks and took his seat. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.—Amalgamation : Proposed by Cr. Mathias and seconded by Cr. Langley, " That this Council take the necessary steps to merge the Wainui district with the Raglan Town Board in accordance with the petition presented to the Council by Messrs Gilmour and Dando. Carried unanimously.—Bridge repairs : Proposed by Cr. Brooks, seconded by Cr. Langley, " That a reply be sent to the Chairman, Whaingaroa Road Board, stating that the repairs to the bridges, &c.. on the Waipa-Raglan road would be proceeded with. Carried.—Legal expenses : Proposed by Cr. Brooks, seconded by Cr. Langley, "That our previous decision re the legal expenses incurred by the Waikato County Council be confirmed. Carried. Hospital Representatives: Proposed by Cr. Mathias and seconded by Cr. McGuirk "That Mr T. G. Sandes be appointed to represent the County of Raglan on the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for the ensuing year, and that 10s per meeting be allowed him in aid of expenses. Carried. Control of Bridges and Ferries : Proposed by Cr. Brooks and seconded by Cr. Langley, "That application be made to the Governor in accordance with Section 9, Public Works Act 1884, to vest in the County the whole of the bridges, ferries and fords across the Waipa and Waikato Rivers dividing the Counties." Carried. Delegated power: Proposed by Cr. McGuirk and seconded by Cr. Sherrett, " That the powers contained in Section 157-158 Counties Act 1886 be delegated to the Pirongia Road Board." For the motion : Crs. McGuirk, Mathias and Sherrett. Against: Crs. Mitchell, Brooks and Langley. The voting being even the Chairman gave his casting vote against the motion. — Punt at Ngaruawahia: It was proposed by Cr. Brooks and seconded by Cr. Langley " That the letter of Mr A. M. Smith be placed in the hands of Cr. Brooks to enquire into the subject of a punt over the Waipa, and if necessary, to comply with the Act, the Council to call for tenders for the same." Carried.—Accounts: The following accounts were passed for payment: —A. Calder, £2 10s; J. Douglas, 10s; Phillips Bros., 1s 1d; The Waikato Times, £7 1s: R. Loane, £6 14s 6d; R. Philip, 13s 6d ; J. Strong. 10s ; Champtaloup and Cooper, £1 4s 7d: T. G. Sandes, £7 10s. Works on Waipa Raglan Road: Proposed by Cr. Langley and seconded by Cr. Mathias, "That the engineer be instructed to lay off in sections to be formed, the road from Raglan to Whatawhata and other works, and that he supply an estimate of the cost; also that tenders be called for at once. Carried. —Engineers report: The Engineer of the County, Mr T. G. Sandes, read his report, which was adopted.—Tenders for road work: Proposed by Cr. Brookes and seconded by Cr. McGuirk, " That under the circumstances of the indistinct wording of the application for road maintenance, they shall not be opened. Carried. —Alteration of contract: The engineer was authorised to arrange for an alteration in the plan for the Kaniwhaniwha Bridge.—Rates: Notice was given to strike a ¾d rate in Pirongia, Te Akau, Karioi. and Onewhero districts, and a ½d rate in Whangape.
