Auckland, Wednesday. At the Police Court, "jo-day, David Hunter was committed for trial on a charge of embezzling; various sums of money from Moir and Co., of Christchnrch.
A difficulty lias arisen between the local butchers and the Freezing Company, relative to the retail prices of moat. Up till a recent period thero was a great deal of cutting in the butchering trade and with the object of putting an end to unprofitable com petition. Mr Sinclair lias been elected chairman of the Waitemata County Council.
Three young lads were convicted to-day of stealing from the Wollesley street school. His Worship decided that as the little boy Thomas Wilson was under age lie would be discharged. Arthur Johnson and Hugh Wilson were each lined £1 and costs, to defray damage and also to ba privately whipped, each to receive six strokes of a birch rod.
