THAMES, Wednesday, Mb L. J. Bah.nall was to-day elected chairman of tlic Couutv Council for the ensuing year. The whole machinery of the NewberryVautin process was set in motion yesterday afternoon to test its efficiency. The trial proved very satisfactory, everything working smoothly. DUNEDEN, Wednesday. The eleventh annual show of the Agricultural and Pastoral Associations was held to-day. The weather was not favourable, being showery. The general features of the Show are similar to past years, the chief novelty being a dairy factory in operation. CII.rtLSTCHURCH, Wedncsday. The Chamber of Commerce to day resnlved to communicate with the other Chambers and Industrial Associations with a view to getting suitably represented at the Paris Exhibition, and to request the Government to appoint a Commissioner iu the colony to collect exhibits and proceed to Paris to act in conjunction with Sir F. Dillon Bell. It was also resolved to continue the agitation against altering the present system of railway freights for grain. INVERCARGILL. Wednesday. Shearing has started, but on a number of stations it is interrupted by the weather, which is bitterly inclement. Unless it changes the crops will suffer a serious check. Snow has fallen in several quarters, and floods are anticipated. Several land owners have been fined at Wyndhain, for neglecting to suppress rabbits.
