DETERMINED SUICIDE AT TE AROHA.

4 On Tuesday afternoon just aftor the arrival of the Auckland train, the police were informed that an old identity named William Lincoln, had jumped off the railway bridge with a bag of stones tied round his neck. Sergoant Emerson and Cunstable Wild at onee proceeded to the spot indicated, and learned en route from John Aylswood, an employee at the fla.< mill, that he had seen Lincoln drop from the bridge into the deepest part of the. river. When the police arrived, Messrs W. Hetherington, <T. B. Johnson, and C. Flatt, were out in a boat searching for the bidy with a pole and hook attached, and in a few minutes it was found about 25 yards below the bridge, but of course life was extinct, though not more than twenty minutes had elapsed since the occurrence took place. The deceased was a painter well known here, and at the Thames by the suibriquet <>f "Little llilly." He saw and spoke to several people during the afternoon seeming in the best of spirits, none of whom had any reason t« suspect, he had any intention of committing the rash act. He borrowed a sack from Mr Jiveritt, senr., and cut it in two, this was found tied round his neck with a quantity of mud and stones much of which had fallen out as the sack was partly open.
