(by telegraph.— prbss association.) DUNEDIN, Monday. THKHon. Mr Mitchelson is giving np racing. He sold Whakawai to a Melbourne sportsman, but there was no bidder for Tranter. NAPIER, Monday. Another fatal accident is reported from Wairoa. A little girl, daughter of James Fletcher, died this morning, from the effects of her clothes having caught fire. This is the second similar fatality within a short period in that district. BLENHEIM, Monday. Mr J. Robinson, Secretaty to the Education Board, and General of Examinations has issued a writ claiming £1000 for libel against the Nelson Evening Mail for reflections on the Blenheim supervision of scholarship examinations. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The premises of Mr J. 'T. Brown, coal and timber merchant, corner of Tuam and Colombostreets, were, burglariously entered between Saturday nifihtand Monday morning. Fortunately all his valuables were looked up in a safe which the thieves did not attempt and they did not secure any spoil. About 6 o'clock this morning Constable Donophue arrested a man named Featherstone in the act of catching trout .with a, net in the Waimakarri River, at Kaipoi. He had five fish, weighing 201bs. Constable Donoglme also searched a man named Phillips, and fonnd three trout, one weighing 81bs., in his possession. Last night the office of Isaac Allen, Bailiff here, was broken into. All valuables were in the safe, and all that was taken were some receipts and letters, Alexander Watson, painter, Rangiora, and his son had a narrow escape from drowning in the Ashley River this morning. Their horse got into a quick sand and overturned the vehicle. With great difficulty they swam to the bank. The horse was drowned.
