SINGULAR EXPERIENCE OF LOVERS.

« The Evouing Standard remarks that the course of true love is proverbially said never to run smooth, but it might often run smoother than it does were it not for misunderstandings cVamour propro carried to excess. A ease in point, for example, is furnished by a little episode in the life of two American young people, which has now ended satisfactorily. They were what 13 commonly called in love with each other, and corresponded. The lovemaking, however, came to a sudden standstill many months ago, because the tender swain did not receive an nnswer to his last letter. He pined in silence in the town where he lived—she drooped and moped in Chicago, and but for an accidental circumstance thisstateof things might have gone on for ever, for boLh were too high-strung to ask for explanations. A week or two ago, however, the young man received an answer to his last letter, accompanied by au explanatory note. A commercial traveller, whilst riding in a train, had purchased a magazine published in Chicago, and between the psigos lie discovered the letter addressed to the pining lover. It was sewn in the pages, and was stamped, so was forwarded to its destination by the tinder of it. It seems that the young woman worked in a bindery house, and had placed the letter which had caused so much trouble between the pages, had forgotten it was there, and hail thought she had posted it. But for the commercial traveller there might have been two broken hearts, instead of which there is now an approaching wedding.
