(BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Auckland, Friday. There is great competition this year for the Board of Education scholarships. For the eight Junior scholarships there are 113 entries received from the Auckland district, 15 from the Thames, and 14 from Waikato, making 142 in all. For the four Senior scholarships offered Auckland sends up 17, and the Thames 0 candidates. Mr Ambury is again nominated as Mayor for Newton. The Board of Education to-day accepted the following tenders:—For roofing the teachers' dwelling at Hamilton West, E. Waddington, £45 15a; and roofing the teachers' house at Te Awamutu, J. L. Mandenn, £31.
