TENNIS.
Yesterday afternoon, four gentlemen and two lady members of the Cambridge Lawn Tennis Club journeyed from Cambridge to play a friendly game with the members of the Hamilton Club. The teams were :— Cambridge: Messrs Cixike, Bull, Rutherford and LnsU and Misses Chambers and Moon. Hamilton: Messrs MoLernoo, Brookfield and Forbes and Dr. Murch and Misses Soppett and Newell. The first game played was between Messrs Bull and Cooke and Messrs McLernon and Brookfield. The set was opened by Mr McLernon, and Hamilton won the first game, and then Cambridge replied by winning the next three, and Hamilton won the fifth, a love game; Cambridge won the sixth, also a love game, and then Hamilton won the seventh, eighth and ninth, and Cambridge then won the tenth, making the score five all. The concluding game was won by Cambridge, a love game, the score for this set being Cambridge 0, Hamilton 5. In the second set Cambridge was again victorious, by six games to four, the third and seventh, won by Cambridge, and the eighth, won by Hamilton, being love games. The order of the third set was reversed, Hamilton winning by six to four; Cambridge thus winning by 10 games to 15. The next game was between Messrs Lusk and Rutherfurd and Dr. Murch and Mr Forbes. Dr. Murch had to retire after the third game, and Mr Flood took his place. Cambridge won this set by G to love. The second, fourth and fifth were love games. In the second set Hamilton improved, and managed to win 5 game? to Cambridge (i. Hamilton fell off in the thud set, allowing Cambridge to win another love set, thus winning the game by 18 games to 5. In the ladies' game between Misses Chambers and Moon, Cambridge, and Misses Newell and Soppett, Hamilton, the latter won the first set by G to 1, but Cambridge won the second and third sets by (I—2 and fl—3 thus winning in the three sets by 13 games to 11. Two mixed games were, then played, the first between Mr Cooke and Miss Chambers Cambridge, and Mr Brookfield and Miss Newell Hamilton, was won by Cambridge by 12 games to 5, and the second between Mr Bull and Miss Moon Cambridge, and Mr McLernon and Miss Soppett Hamilton, being won by Hamilton by 14 games to 8. The total number of games played was thus 117, Cambridge winning GG and Hamilton 50.
