There is as yet no clue to the thief. DUNKDIN, Monday. Thomas Gleeson, who was arrested at Invcivargill last week, was committed for trial to-day on three separate charges of burglary. At the meeting of the Land Board today the Chief Commissioner was authorised to state a case to the judge, and get a decision on the proper construction of section 11 of the Land Act, ISS7, on the following points : —1, whether the limitation of the area of land which may be purchased for cash applies only to purchases made under that Act; 2, whether the declaration required t.) be made by an intending purchaser extends to lands acquired under any prior Act relating to the sale or disposal of Crown Lands, and includes purchases from a private person ; or, 3, whether such declaration only extends to land acquired under the provisions of the Act of 1887.
