INTERPROVINGIAL.
(by telegraph.—press association.) DTJNEDIN, Monday. In the effects of his deceased wife the Rev. Alfred Brunton has found a leather bag, which, on being opened, was found to contain nearly 300sovs. From memoranda left by the deceased, it seems that she has been saving this money during the twenty years she has been in the colony. Mr Brunton's first act was to go to the Official Assignee in bankruptcy, and clear off his liability to Mrs Dalbeybill, who sued him for libel. The rev. gentleman will now get his discharge, as a matter of course. A peculiar affair was reported to the police at Balclutha. Joseph Valentine called on Saturday last and reported that on the 28th ult. he was taking a child, two weeks old from his mother's houso to that of his sister and while walking along the banks of the Clutha on a dark night he stumbled, and the child fell into the river and was never seen again. Valentine has been detained in custody pending inquiries. TIMARU, Monday. Sailed : Inch Keith, barque, for England, with 10,300 sacks of wheat.
