RAGLAN.

The Raglan Wharf.—A meeting of the united Boards of Raglan and Whaingaroa was held in the Council Chambers, Raglan, on Saturday, November 3rd, to receive and open tenders re the proposed deep water wharf in Raglan Harbour. There was a very full attendance, both Boards being well represented. A letter from the manager of the N.S.S. Co. was read by the clerk, sent in response to an application from the Board for a subscription from the Company in aid of the work. The writer regi-etted that the directors were unable to contribute towards the erection of the wharf, but at the same time pointed out the greatly increased facilities it would afford to shipping at our port, and the great convenience it would be to the entire district; also predicting that the two Boards would shortly receive a handsome interest from dues, &c, upon their outlay. So mote it be. —Mr Dando proposed and Mr Philp seconded, •'That the letter just read be entered in the minute-book." Carried. — Considerable discussion arose re the tenders for the wharf in the chairman's hands, some wishing the tenders to remain unopened while the time was extended, others thinking that the matter should be settled at once. Mr John Moon then proposed, Mr Philp seconded that the tenders be now opened. Catried. The tenders were then opened with the following result:—David Henderson, Ngarnawahia, £!).Vi; Robert Bruce, Raglan, £8!)8 10s. Proposed by Mr T. Wilson, seconded by Mr A. Uilmour, that the tender of Robert Bruce, be accepted subject to certain amendments in the specification being made by Messrs Cogwell and Savage, clerks of the Whaingaroa and Raglan Highway Boards. Carried,—Proposed by Mr Philip, secondel by MrPegler, that Messrs Wilson and Mitchell be appointed inspectors of the works. Carried. Proposed by Mr Wils»n, seconded by Mr Dando, that upon completion of the proposed alterations in the specifications the clerk shall give the contractor notice, to attend with hi 3 bondsmen and sign the contract the Chairman and Messrs Cogswell and Savage to witness the signatures, and attest them. Carried. An account .from Messrs Grut and Frissel, a preparation of key plan of wharf, was ordered to be paid subject to certain alterations, and a vote ot thanks to the Chairman, brought a most unanimous meeting to a close. The meeting was fraught with great results for the future progress of the district since this long-talked of and much needed work is now actually upon the point of being started, and from the well-known character of the contractor for probity, energy and straightforwardness there is not the least doubt the work will be successfully completed. Raglan Town Board.—A meeting of the Raglan Town Board also took place, all the trustees being present. Business in regard to the amalgamation of the district and the petition about to be presented to the County Council was considered.

School Committee.—A meeting also of the Raglan School Committee afterwards took place, at which an account for firewood was ordered to be paid, and the tender of Mr Loane for removal of furzs was accepted. The grounds around the school and teachers house are covered with a considerable crop of this plant. Local Steameu.—Our local trader, the s.s. Rowena, arrived hero during last week. During her trip down she experienced very rough weather, and in crossing the bars of Kawhia anal Raglan, found very heavy seas to contend with. After her arrival, she was detained several days owing to the high winds and broken seas, but got over the Raglan bar on her way to Onehunga on Saturday morning. The Weather.— During the last week the weather has been one continual howl ot wind.

Picnic.—A monster picnic is to be held at Te Akau, November 9th. If fine no doubt those present will enjoy themselves at that romantic spot.
