TE AROHA.

Mining.—A contract lias been let to Mr J. May for driving 50 feet in the Montezuma, the price being 17s 3d per foot. Parkes' Furnace.—The news that the furnace is working satisfactorily at Karangahake is heartily welcomed here. Mr Ah CJuoi of Auckland who is a large shareholder m the Montezuma visited the reduction works last Sunday, and was kindly shown over the plant by Mr Parkes who explained the simplicity of the process, and informed Mr Ah Qtioi that within three weeks from that date he would commence operations at the Tui. Invalid Chair.—Some complaints are being made that the Domain Board have neglected to procure a chair for the convenience of visitors who are crippled and unable to walk from the hotels to the Baths. It is stated that a gentleman from the South, now staying at the Club Hotel, is unable to procure the benefits which he reasonably anticipated, from this very want, and will be compelled to leave without having had an opportunity to test their efficiency, but taking with him a feeling of resentment a»ainst those who should have made the provision. It is certain that a very small charge for hire would soon repay the outlay. Visitors to Richmond.—Messrs Burnett Bros, have been making large additions to their residence at Richmond, in anticipation of the arrival of Sir Robert Burnett, who is expected at a very early date. Mr J. Mills, the contractor, completed the improvements on Tuesday. Horse Sale.—Mr J. McNicol held a horse and cattle sale at Bradley and Co's horse bazaar on Saturday last, which was largely attended. About 50 horses and six dairy cows were disposed of at good marketable values. Prince ok Wales* Birthday.—No preparation of any sort is as yet being made in Te Aroha to mark this event, though our sister township Waiorongomai is again to the fore with a soiree, concert and dance in aid of the Church of England. __ The local band is engaged to play at the Fancy Dress Ball at Paeroa which is to be held on the evening of that day.
