SOUTH AUCKLAND RACING CLUB.
A meeting of the committee of the above Club was held at the Commercial Hotel on Monday evening last. Present: Messrs G. Edgecumbe (in the chair), Hay, Booth, Cassidy, Windsor, Bright, Dickey, Kenny, Bell, Jones, Davis, Jolly, Biggs, Knox and Carter. After the minutes had been confirmed, the Chairman said that Mr G. H. Carter had consented to act as Secretary, and on the motion of Mr J. C. Booth, seconded by Dr. Kenny, Mr Carter was unanimously elected Secretary. Mr Hay moved that a hearty vote of thanks bo accorded to the late Mr C. J. W. Barton, for his services, and that the Secretary be instructed to convey the same to Mr Barton, and to say that the committee wish him all prosperity in his future undertakings.-—Seconded by Mr Davis and carried unanimously. The following names wore added to the general committee: —His Worship the Mayor (Mr Isaac Coates), and Messrs Jno. Knox, R. J. Gwynne, H. I. Biggs, and B. Coleman. After some discussion, it was resolved that the stak<> for the South Auckland Cup should be fixed at £100, and a further sum of £170 was placed at the disposal of a subcommittee, consisting of Messrs Edgecumbe, Booth, Dickey. Windsor, Cassidy, Hay. Bell, Jones and Kenny, who wero appointed to prepare a programme. The minimum weight for all flat race handicaps was fixed at six stone seven pounds. It was decided to request the following gentlemen to act as the various officers during the ensuing season :— Handicappers : Messrs J. McNicoi, W. S. Rutherford, and T. G. Sandes. Starter: Mr J. S. Buckland. Judge : Major Jackson, M.H.R. Clerks of Course: Messrs E. T. H. Pilling and D. Lees. Clerk of Scales: Mr 11. 1. Biggs. In order to make the canvass for members as general as possible, it was decided that a number of tickets be given to each member of the committee to dispose of. The Secretary was instructed to write to all the stewards of last season, asking tliein to act in the same capacity again. A committee, consisting of Messrs Edgecumbe, Knox, Bright, Bell, Jones, Windsor, Dickey, Kenny, Mathia? and Cassidy, was appointed to arrange for a settling day, and to see that all monies are paid within seven days from the date of the meeting.
It was resolved to request His Worship the Mayor to declare the 29th of December a public holiday, and a vote of thanks to the chairman brought the meeting to a close.
