SOUTH AUCKLAND RAGING CLUB.
The adjourned meeting of the South Auckland Racing Club was held on Thursday afternoon at the Commercial Hotel, Hamilton. There was a much better attendance < than at the previous meeting, and the members present were in good heart, looking forward to the same capita! sport at their forthcoming Summer Meeting that has attended their past efforts in this direction. The main business left over from last week was to decide the date of the fixture and the appointment of a committee and secretary. Some discussion took place as to the date, some members arguing in favour of holding the races on the sth January, others 1 favouring the same date as last year. Even- 1 tually it was decided that the met ting should take placo on Satmday. December 29. Since this was decided a good proportion of those favouring the January date have come to the conclusion, all things considered, that the date fixed upon is likely , to prove, most satisfactory. The following were then elected a committee for the ensuing year Messrs Geo. Edgecombe, W- M. Hay, J v C. Booth, T. G. Sandes, T. Jones, W. Cussen, G. 11. Carter, W. F. Bell, A. G. Bright, Dr. Kenny, D. Lees, S. Davis, K. B. Jolly, and H. Windsor. J. Cassidy, for Ohaupo and district; J. Harris, tor Huutly; E. Cussen, for Cambridge; D. Coombs, for Ngaruawahia; H. Graham, for Te Awamutu; B. M. Dickey Whatawhata ; R. G. Mathias, Raglati; J. M. Eraser, Taupiri. Mr C. J. W. Barton the Hon. Secretary to the Club informed the meeting that as his stay in the district wan so uncertain, he was obliged to lender his resignation as Hon. Secretary. Some discussion ensued as to the appointment of his successor, and as a difficulty appeared to ex>st in making an immediate appointment, Mr Barton kindly consented to carry on the clerical work, but wished someone to undertake the duties of Treasurer. Mr Barton's considerate offer was accepted, and Mr Mr Edgecombe was appointed Treasurer. The matter of the unpaid claims against the club was raised by Mr Windsor, who suggested a practical method for dealing with this question—namely, by not waiting for the collection of the unpaid subscriptions and entries, as shown to be owing in the balance-sheet, but that members should pay their member's fees for the incoming season. This met tho hearty support of the meeting, and ill the course of a few days all claims will ba settled. This closed the business of the meeting, and a general conversation took place as to the money to be offered at the forthcoming meeting in the shape of stakes, and other matters of interest. The committee meet on Monday evening next at the Commercial Hotel to draft a programme and to c insider all steps nece-sary for carrying on the work ot the Club. From the general interest taken, the South Auckland Having Club may fairly be said to be started with many prosperous years before it.
