ROAD BOARD MEETINGS.
Toatoaroa Board. Tub Toatoaroa Road Board mot at the Criterion Hotel, Cambridge, mi Saturday, at 11 a.m. Present: Messrs C. N. Brunskill (chairman), H. I. Kallendar, S. Seddon, and H. K, Bninskill. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. PiiO.MPT Attention - .—Tho clerk paid Mr Bailey had written saying the gate, to which attention had been called at the last meeting, should at once be repaired. The chairman said it had benn done some time since. The New Road.—The chairman said he had waited upon the Cambridge Road Board at their Inst meeting, and they had expressed themselves willing to alter the road throughout Mr Dougherty's paddock,. if he (Mr Dougherty) would give his consent in writing, to the proposed deviation. Mr Dougherty had not yet given the undertaking asked for, as ho was anxious to have Mr Bailey's consent, as the proposed alteration wonld cut off the road to a poition of the company's laud. The chairman further stated that Mr Dougherty was willing to give a road a chain wide across tho cud of the paddock which would give access to the land, and that the matter would doubtless bo settled as soon as Mr Bailey had been interviewed. The chairman was deputed to wait upon the Cambridge Board n«ain, and explain why Mr Doughtery had not written them on the subject. Accounts.—The following accounts were passed for payment:—W. B. Stouter, £'110-i 3d ; Ueo. Wattain, £7 7s (id ; Rd. Wattam, as a« (id. School Road —The chairman said Geo. Wattam had made a very good job of the school road ; it was one that was used considerably by the inhabitants, and the work done would be appreciated. OxFOiii) Road. —Mr Seddon reported that he had stopped the man working on the above road. It was now in a good state, and it would be some months before it required attention again, unless there should be very heavy rain, which would doubtless wash some portions of the banks away. He did not know how much had been spent upon the road; but if it had costl'tio, ho thought it cheaply done.—The Clerk said he believed that amount would cover tho expenditure. Tauranga Road.—The Chairman said he had been told that a corner of the above road, in the bush, was too narrow. None of the members appeared to have visited the spot; but it was remarked that tho matter hud been in Mr Is. I. Hunt's hands when he was a member of the Board, and lie had expressed himself satisfied with the work done. They had every confidence in his judgment, and did not take any further steps in the matter. I'usiis i.v Hand.—The Clerk reported tho balance in the bank, in credit, to the amount of ±28!) 9s.—Tho Chairman said he thought they should not only conserve their funds, but that they should be getting interest for them. They would have—after paying the accounts passed—about £'270 in the bank, and as their roads were now in good repair, and the only standing liability was the clerk's salary, £20 per annum, he thought they might safely put £150 to a fixed deposit account for twelve months, as they would still have £'120 to expend, and and also pet £5 or £(i for interest. The other members agreeing, it waj resolved to place £150 to fixed deposit account, and tho clerk at once drew a cheque for tho amount, remarking as he did so : This is the first tiino during my long experience with Road Boards and County Councils, that I have ever had tho pleasure of drawing a cheque to place money to a deposit account. The general rule is to pay interest instead of receiving it. This was all the business.
