The insurance is £200 in the National. COROMANDEL, Monday. At a large public meeting, held on Saturday, resolutions wore unanimously passed, condeming Sir J. Hector's action re Mr Witheford at the Melbourne Exhibition, and calling upon the Government to compel Sir J. Hector to withdraw his imputations. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. This morning a Maori named Hoani Mare (John Murray) on remand on the charge of breaking into the Mandeville Hotel, at Kaiapoi, escaped from the Addington Gaol. The warder (jave prisoner his breakfast at six, and he thinka he locked the door. On visiting the cell at GAC> he found the door open and the man gone. DUNEDIN, Monday. The dinner to the Hon. W. J. M. Ljrn.'ieh, on Saturday last, was largely attended by representative men. Last week John Pitcher, William Pitcher and Andrew Pitcher, runholders of Ophir, were charged with stealing two heifers. After two day's hearing the Bench committed Andrew Pitcher, discharging the others.
