THE FARMER'S MEETING.

TO THB KDITOR. Sir, —Nothing is of value unless complete, and I think it will be generally admitted, that the remarks made by the chairman of the farmers' meeting at Obaupo, affords as complete an instance of iron coolness and nerve,"as can bo desired. Mr Gane said that the fanners had been hitherto plodding along, each one for himself, but that now the time had come when they should have to combine, not only to get cheap manures and seeds, but also to find a market for their produce. The Frozen Meat Company, which a large numbei of farmers had taken shares in, so as to help one another, had proved rather injurious than otherwise to the farming interests, and he thought the best way would be to form a Farmer's Association." All reference to a defunct institution, of which this gentleman was managing director, which had among its other titles, that of Farmer's Association and in its prospectus the very objects now advocated, is carefully avoided. The de preciating reference to the Frozen Meat Company is almost enough to take one's breath away, there being, of course, no other institution in which a large number of farmers h;id taken shares, and which had resulted somewhat injuriously. No doubt farmers will roll np to join this combination, but it would be as weil to know beforehand what quantity of old seeds and Swiss cheese is in stock. —I am, etc., A Buvku of Old Sunns and Swiss Chekse in thk Past.
