EMPEROR FREDERICK'S ILLNESS.

The Dowager Empress Victoria has written to Sir Morrell MeKenzie, admitting that he had warned her early in the illness of the late Emperor, that malignant growth might appear. Sir Morell McKenzie's book contains 20 plates showing details of tlio larnyx and the use of the converlab. Sir Morell McKenzie denies that he wounded the vocal cord in his operations, and states Dr. Gerhardt was guilty of making false accusations against him, in asserting that this was so. All Sir M. McKenzie's German colleagues, including Dr. Uergmann, admitted he was right in his treatment of the patient. Sir M. MuKmikus affirms that Dr. Bergman opened tlio trachea three millimetres to the right of the middle line when ho used 'the canula, thus causing loss of tissue, intense discomfort, and exhaustion. Dr. McKenzie ncenssos Dr. Bergtuann of wrongly diagnosing the secondary cancer in the iuog, and says the death blow was given to the Emperor on April 12th, through Dr. JSergmann's tube making a . false passage, thus inflaming the trachea, drawing the strength of the patient and shortening his life bv len mouths. The Emperor had suffered no p;iin until tracheotomy was performed. .In cases of cancer, ninety-one per cent, were fatal, the voice was destroyed by tile operation and recurrence of the disease almost certain. Dr. Herhardt's ruthless cauterising of the Emporor's throat was unexampled ill the history of surgery, and was likely to make a benign complaint a malignant one. The British medical journal publisher a fac simile of tlio letter wrilteu by the late Emperor Frederick, containing the expression " Bergmann illtreated me."
