LIBEL ACTION.
|IIV TKLEGKAI'II— I'RIMS ASSOCIATION'! CiinisTOiiuucii, Wednesday. At the KM. Court, before Messrs C. Whilrford, K.M., F. Guinness and F. J. Kinibell, J.P'.s, Thomas Brawn Bain appeared to answer an information for having written and published a libel on Mr .Tnhii (Jllivier, R.M. Mr Joynt appeared for defendant, and Mr Holmes appeared in support of the information, and explained that accused appealed on a charge of defamatory libel on the administration of justice, on September 27th. He was employed to defend accused, and from what he heard on the Saturday following, he found that a defamatory libel was being circulated. He was accused of having spent the evening «f Wednesday with Mr Ollivier, and having bribed or corrupted him to give improper judgment. The evidence showed the libel consisted of swine verses, which had been printed at Joseph lves' office to the order of Bain, who before Retting them printed consulted James Cagill, printer, who recommended him to go to Mr lves' office. Messrs Holmes and Li'iughiey. solicitors, offered a reward of £■> for information as to where the libel had bei'n printed, for it bore no imprint. The accused reserved his defence, and was committed for trial, being admitted to bail on his own recognisances. The charge of libel on Holmes was adjourned for a week.
