DREAMS.
I remember still the sunset (Standing on the shingly shore Watching for the golden pathway As it ghtteied more and more). And I see her come towards me From the hill, so bleak and cold. Till she stands A'ithin the sunshine With the same sweet smile of old ; All the darkness left behind her, All her hair one golden gleam, As she gives her loving promise — This seems almost like a dream ! Then again a night of darkness Covered all the land and sen, Till a bright and brilliant moonlight O'er the hill there seemed to !->e, Showing me the path she trod (that Night she came) so calm and still, Lighting now a lonely figure Climbing o'er the distant hill! And I cried aloud in anguish, " Take me with thee ! Silvery beam Lot lue go with her I love so ■ But I woke—This was a dream. And whene'er I stand and watch the Sun set o'er the shining sea, I can fancy I see someone Pointing out the way to me Up the little narrow pathway Where I seem to see her still Climbing, till she meets the moonlight, O'er the summit of the hill; And her voice keeps calling, calling, Bidding me not fear the strife Nor be weary, e'er the wakening Shall unfold tne Dream of Life. —M.
