MASSACRE IN AFGHANISTAN.
llF.i'OßTrt received in Calcutta from the North-West confirm the rumour of a massacre of Afghan soldiers by the Shinwarris. The following details are derived from a native eonrce :—"Five soldiers of the Ameer's army interfered with a woman grinding grain at a, mill in Paiklia. The woman reported the fact to Nasir Khan, of Paiklia. He immediately .sent men to attack the five soldiers, and his men succeeded in killing three and wounding two. The wounded soldiers went to Achin, a placo three miles to tho south of Paiklia, and reported the fact to the general, who ordered a portion of his army to attack Paikha, and wrote requiring tho Shinwarristo pay 2,000 vs. as a fine and to hand over Nasir Khan. Tliey replied oll'pritig, if he would attend himself, to hold. :i ,'•>'.villi him. The Commander-in-Chief has now reached liichoman, mar Paiklia, with five regiments of foot, t'.vo of cavalry, ami tA'i-nt.y-one puis, and lias the Ameer for help.
