A TERRIBLE ENGINE.
Destructive Capability cf one of th: Now Gun-boats. PnniADK.M'niA, April 17. — William Cramp & Sons' Ship and Engine Builders' Company liavo nearly completed a dynamite gun-boat designed for tho United States Navy. It was to be launched on Saturday, Aju-il '28th, in tho presence- of Secretary Whitney. It carries four pneumatic guns for the burling of dynamite projectil.-s, each with a range of at least a mile. The training of the buds is accomplished by the steering of the vessel, and the loading i:< nil dom; by steam. Tho guns are of 15 inch calibre, and the shells, which will be fired with grout accuracy, twice a miuute.will contain 000 pounds of explosive gelatine, equivalent to S2;i pounds of dynamite, or 910' pounds of gun-cotton.
It is claimed that this gun, when properly handled will bo tho most destructive engn;e of war yet invented, for the heaviest armoured vessels in tho world will go all to pieces from the explosion of a shell much .smaller than rhnso thrown by the guns on the Yorktown.
