Mk E. Withy, i\r.li.R., for Newton, the first representative to give a post-sessional account of his stewardship, met his constituents on Tuesday evening. His address was a clear and able statement of the work of the late session, and was distinguished for the frankness of tho opinions expressed by the speaker and the consistency of his actions, both before and since his election. Although there were signs of disapproval at the meeting, Mr "Withy's words carried conviction with them, and he was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence, which was carried by a very large majority. A motion wos also passed, requesting Mr Withy to deliver a series of public addresses in order to create a healthy public opinion.
