THE SALVATION ARMY AT WHATAWHATA.
. « The little township of Whatawhata had quite a lively appearance on Thursday evening last, a small contingent (15 in number) of the Hamilton corps of the Salvation Army, under the local officers, and assisted by Mrs Hutchinson, making the first attack on that place. The school room, which was kindly lent for the occ.iston, was nicely arranged by a few friends in that locality. Although a heavy thunderstorm came down about 3 o'clock ill the afternoon, and , made the road rather " soft," this did not prevent the detachment from arriving safely. A march was formed starting from the school-room, and going round by tho hotel and back again. Apparently the Maoris (who could all more or less speak and understand English and who had assembled in good numbers) were delighted, and the people turned out well, the schoolroom not being large euough to seat them all. Addresses and testimonies were given, which were listened to very attentively, and without a sound by those present. The visitors arrived home safely about midnight.
