Farm Opehationh.—There . has . been a considerable amount of ploughing done around hare, lately, and wheat sown. Tha natives particularly havo gone in for it, every 0110 of them having a patch in. Tub Taupo-nw-atia Scandal.—The indignation of the Maniapoto natives, if not loud, is deep against the refusal of the Government and Courts to give them an opportunity of proving their rights to the Taupo lands. Their feeling is also deeply shared by all Europeans who know anything of this monstrous injustice that has been done to Taonui and his people. It is to be hoped that the whole of the particulars of this case will be published,, when public feeling will be aroused and steps taken to have a full enquiry and justice done to the natives concerned, which, at present, is a standing disgrace to the colony.
A New Pkbiodioal.—l lately had an opportunity of reading the three first numbers of the S. John's College News, a monthly publication by the stewards and others connected that; institution in Auckland. The articles on examination papers and other subjects, were well written, and a history of Waiinate Church, the first Church in Now Zealand, were verr interesting indeed and deserves a more extended circulation. The Editor (Mr Einile Aubin) is a son of our townsman Mr John Aubin, and the printer Mr Charles Tisdall, also of Alexandra. The paper is copied from manuscript by,a Cyclostyle and published monthly and includes in its columns a variety of interesting information.
Amuskmen'ts.—Our local Theatrical Club give an entertainment in the Public Hall on Friday the 14th instant, in aid of .their wardrobe fund. As they have assisted several of our organisations most materially by playing for them, it is to be hoped they will lmve a good house. Some capital pieces* are in rehearsal. Several old favourites with some quite new will also grace the boiwds on tho occasion, the inevitable ball oJkioNrse to, follow.
The Late Session.—The Waikato Times loaders on the late session and on the works of our legislators have mot with most unqualified approval here. The result of the session is looked upon with the most unmitigated- disgust, and the ways the Times handled them is not considered a bit too rough.
