OUR LIVE STOCK SALES.

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —It must be evident to all of us that there are far too many live stock sales in Waikato for the good of our farming interests. Not only is it a waste of time to the legitimate farmers attending so many sales to purchase or sell what he wants, when he could do so much better at an occasional large one, '• as has already been proved by our cattle and sheep fairs." But to see the same cattle and horses Isold, sale after sale means only eating up the farmers' hardearned profit by commissions and auction expenses, which can only benefit the many stock-jobbers and auctioneers. In fact, it is no common occurrence for »tock to have fetched in these fees more than they were actually worth, and this evil is growing upon us, and the honest, hardworking farmer has to suffer, if not turned into a stock - jobber himself. Now I would suggest that the auctioneers, and as many mora who liked, hold their sales together on the one day, as is done in other places far larger than Waikato'! Let us bury all petty jealousies and insist upon only half the number of sale 3 as at present. Say a fortnightly sale at Ohaupo, " beinpr otir principal cattle centre," monthly in Cambridge and Hamilton, and quarterly in other smaller places. By this means we should get larger sales, and thus more buyers and sellers together, besides saving time and expense attending so many sales. Stock would then bring their proper market value, instead of up today and down to-morrow, as it suits the speculator. If you would kindly givo this publicity, and advocate through your columns some scheme of this sort, 1 am suro you would be confering a boon upon the farming community,—Yours truly, A Faiuier.
