r ♦ e (by electric tklbckaph.—ooi'yiiioht). 1 Nkwcastlb, Außust 25. 1 The report that 3,000 miners had been cabled for is denied. B SVDSKV, AIIEUSt 2. r ). a The strike of the coal miners is [ expected to last from three to five \ months. At Newcastle four hundred wharf hands have been paid off. Sydney, August 27. 1 The engineer to the Sydney Gas ■ Company is of the opinion that they i cannot maintain, the present gas ' supply for more than a month. If the coal strike lasts any length of time the result will be most serious to a large number of tradesmen. 1 Mr Gillies, the Premier, has granted the Union Company permission to coal their New Hebrides mail steamer in New Zealand during the continuance of the Newcastle i strike. Advices have been received by cable from Cardiff, offering to land ' coal here by steamers, at twentyfive shillings per ton. [BY TKLKGBAI'JI—I'BKSS ASSOCIATION.] [ Donkdin, August 27. The local dealers have raised the price of all seaborne coals 5s per ton. Auckland, Monday. Captain Hay ward has arranged with the Katno Coal Company to supply 3,0G0 tons of coal from the Kamo mine at Whangarei for the Zealandia and following mail steamers. Large orders have been received from Australia for Auckland coal, also instructions to coal steamers calling here. It is doubted whether the demand can be met, and coal shows an upward tendency. A private telegram received from the South to-day indicates the miners' strike being extended to New Zealand, chiefly through the medium of Federated Seamen's Union, but so far we have no confirmation of such a report. The manager of the Auckland branch of the Seamen's Union says he has no information ou the subject, his instructions simply being that the Jubilee Company is to continue operations as hitherto.
