RAGLAN.
• Flax Industry.—Mr W. Galvan has leased tho mill site from the natives at the Ohautua, Todd's Creek, North Arm. It is the intention to run the machinery by steam power. A portable engine is to be employed. The machinery for the same is expected down next steamer. County Council Election'.—After six months' delay, the Governor, by proclamation, has declared the seats of the Raglan County vacant, and a new election is now called for. It is expected that quite a number of gentlemen are coming forward for the position of councillors in the Karioi Riding, which returns two members. Five or six are already spoken of, and great interest is being taken in the coming struggle. The Wharf.—Key plans of the soundings of the new wharf have been sent to the Marine Department. Tenders will be at once called for, on approval of the Government. Wkathkr.—Though we have not suffered from such high winds as in other years, yet continued wet weather has prevailed, and farming and garden operations are retarded thereby.
