LARCENY AT CAMBRIDGE.
A member of the swell mob, named John Henry Sutherland, alias John James Sutherland, alias John King Kiinball visited Cambridge on Saturday, and during the aftornoon he went upstairs at the Criterion Hotel, and purloined a gold locket and chain belonging to Mrs Allbay, the cook, u pair of trowsers belonging to Mr J. S. Buckland, and a singlet, the property of Mr Bach. When taxed with the theft he delivered up the locket and chain, dropped tho other things, and bolced. He was caught in the evening, and duly lodged in the lock-up. He was brought up yesterday, before Messrs Wells and Russell, J. P.'s, and sentenced to G months , imprisonment with hard labour for each offence, to run concurrently. A man named James McCahe was also charged with entering the dwelling-house of Robert McCall, at Toatoaroa, on or about the 21st of the month, and stealing therefrom a quantity of clothes, etc. On the application of Constable Brennan the case was adjourned until to-day, in order that the Clerk of the Court might attend.
