Cambridge v. Hamilton.
[By Wingma.\.| Thk.sk two clubs met for the first time this season on Saturday last on Sydney Square, and after a closely-contested game. Hamilton scored a win by three points (a proal from the field) to nil. During the first spell the game was for the most part kept up in Cambridge quarters, and Gribble cot our the line once, but the try was not allowed. Lush and Light in the backs did Rood work, and often relieved their lines when a score seemed certain for Hamilton. Shortly before half-time Saga got a mark, from which W. Hammond made a splendid shot at coal, the ball falling about a yard short. In the second spell Cambridge had to play a man short, G. MeOann having injured his knee. Cambridge warmed up this spell, and although often hard pressed, they managed to keep Hamilton from scoring until about 10 minutes from time, when A. Sage potted a splendid goal. Hume made an unsuccessful shot, the ball just falling a little short. For Cambridge, Light played up splendidly, and Lusk, Rutherford, Bull (2), and Hannon were conspicuous. 1". Hammond, as centre man, did good work for Hamilton, and he was well supported by Jolly, Quick, Gribblo and Peacock. In the backs O'Neill was always safe, von Stunner was rather slow at passing, but otherwise played well, and Sage and Hume did good work in collaring. Messrs Wilson and Gribble captained, and Messrs F. Gaudin and W. Odium umpired for Cambridge and Hamilton, respectively, and Mr R. J. Gwynne acted as referee.
