A ballot of policy-holders in the Australian Mutual Provident Society on tho proposal of the directors to establish ail OiKccra' Provident Fund resulted in favour of the scheme by a majority of 15,000. Brisbane, August 15. The steamer Afghan, from Foo Chooto Sydney, with 5,000 chests of tea, has gone ashore on Oockburn Reef, Torres Straits. The fore compartment is full of water, and about 500 tons of tea damaged. It is probable that the steamer will be floated off '
