Waikato Hunt Club Races. The above races were hold yesterday on Mr Allwill's course, at Hautapu, and proved, as far as spurt was concerned a great success. Tho attendance was somewhat poor, only about2">o being present, but everyone appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves, and the whole proceedings went through without a hitch. Mr N. G Glassford, Esq., was judge, and Mr C. J. Storey gave every satisfaction as starter, getting the horses well away together. Mr Charles Tuck attended to the weighing, and Messrs E. Pilling and T. Brown (the huntsman) were clerks of the course. Their office was, however, a sinecure. Mr D. J. Arnaboldi had his totalisator on the ground, Wit the amount put through was small, most business being done in sweeps. The following are the winners of the events : — Handicap Hukdlkh. Mr Dickey's Recruit (C. Storey) ... 1 Mr J. J. Phillip's Mercedes (Walker ... 2 Mr F. Newsham's Monitor (A. Storey... 3 Eight started. Recruit immediately went to the front, followed by Mercedes, Te Namo, Joe, and Monitor in the order named, Maori and Bsssemer bringing up the rear. The positions were unaltered until half n-inile had been covered, when Patch was taken to the front, not, however, to hold it long, for Recruit went to the front again haifa-mile from home. Here Joe ran into second place, and it looked as if it would bo a close finish with him and Recruit, but he unfortunately swerved at the last hurdle which put him out of it. Patch fell at the last hurdle. Dividend, £1 18s. Novel Race. Mr Wetherell's Fisherboy 1 Mr Mclnerny's Apology 2 Mr McGlashan's Talbot 3 Fisherboy won easily, and was bought in by hia owner for £11 ss. Dividend, 18a. Host Cum Steeplechase. Mr Glassford's Nora (owner) ... ... 1 Mr Lawson'e Joe (owner) 2 itecruit and Fairplay cantered in together for third. Nora went off with the lead, but foil at the first hurdle, but her rider was soon up again. She then baulked at the next, but after that went straight and well the whole distance, and had enough left in her at the last to beat Joe, who had jumped splendidly throughout. Monitor got hung across one of the fences, and was out (>f it. Albion jumped splendidly, and looked dangerous, but came to grief at the last fence but two, throwing his ridsr heavily nnd rendering him insensible for a time. He was, however, soon light again. Fairplaj' took sumo terrilic flyers, but was too heavily weighted. The whole of the horses entered started. Dividend, £1 7s. Ladies' Bracelet. Miss Taylor's Laddie (C. Glassford) ... 1 Mrs Btc'h's Kismet (A. Bach) 2 Nino started. Patch and Laddie were ne.ck and neck for the greater part of the distance, but the former had to retire, and Kismet came through the crowd with a rush, but could not catch Luddie, who won easily. Recruit and Kotiro were third. Dividend, £112s. Selling Steepi.echask. Mr S. Lawson's Joe (owner) 1 Mr J. W. Taylor's Cock Robin (C. Glassford) 2 Mr A. Bach's Billy (owner) 3 Joe went away at once, and got a big lead before his rider could pull him in. He was only headed once, when Cock Robin headed him for a little time, but he soon went to the front again, and won easily, considering that it was the third race that he had ran. Dividend, £1 14s. The wins of Messrs O. Glassford and S. Lawson met with hearty approval, and they were greeted with cheers. After the races were over a quarrelsome member of the community insulted some of the stewards, and narrowly escaped a thrashing. The Hunt Club ball in the evening was a great success. We, however, havo not room in this issue to notice it.
