OHINEMURI.
Mining Intellhjhncr.—'The salo of the Arizona goldmine at Peel's Creek, Marototo, is now an accimiplished fact. One mine was taken up by the persons who have just sold it, about 10 months ago. It is about eight acrps in area, and has well-de-fined reefs running through it. The dirt does not assay for any large results, but when put through the Fraser process in bulk, gave returns equal to ljoz. to the ton of rich bullion. There has been a good deal of work done by the late owners who are nearly all bona fide miners and deserve the good luck. The names of the men are: — Messrs 15. Qninn. J. W. Snow, W. Marriinan, P. Byrne, P. Milligan, Peel, Shea and another. The cash paid over is £1750. The same purchaser, Mr George Quargle, of Sydney and London, has bought the adjoining claim, the Tawa. The amalgamated properties are to be placed on the London market immediately, and formed into a company. Mr Geo. Stewart, writing from the Colonial Institute, London, to his agent here, states that New Zealand mining is somewhat under a cloud at present, as indeed is everything appertaining to this colony. Mr Stewart is issuing another addition to his Year Book of New Zealand, and hopes to leave for New Zealand in a few weeks, his departure having been unavoidably postponed from last month. Mr J. W. Walker is still going ahead rapidly at Waihi. Over 70 men are employed on the ground, and the machine house, &c., is nearly complete. The reduction of ore will commence in about five weeks, under the supervision of Mr G. W. Small, an expert in pan amalgamation, who arrived ley the Mariposa a week or so ago from Leadville, Colorado, United States of America. Under Mr Walker are Messrs 13. M. Oorbett, the well-known mining engineer, and Mr Harrison, an Engineer from tha Globe Hill factory, Bradford, York. From the other centres there is little to report. The Martha Extended tributes received a return of 12!)nz. for six weeks' crushing, and the Smile of Fortune tributer (Owharoa) are on another good patch. Offers hove been made by Sydney people for mining property at Waitekauri. I
