MEETING AT RAGLAN.
A meeting of the united Highway Boards of Raglan and Whaingaroa, was held to-day, July 28th, at the Council Chambers, Raglan to take stepsfor the construction of the proposed deep water wharf in Raglan Harbour. There were present : — Messrs Wilson, Pickin, and Burgess, (Whaingaroa Highway Board), and Messrs Gilmour, Mitchell, Dando, Pegler, and Philips (Raglan Highway Board.) Mr J. N. Pegler having been voted to the chair, briefly explained the object of the meeting, pointing out the urgent need of the work, as a means of developing the resources of the district, etc., and called upon the clerk to read the minutes of the last meeting. A letter was read from the Marine Department, re the preparation of a key plan of the site of the proposed wharf. Mr S. Wilson proposed, and Mr Burgess seconded (carried) " That the key plans as requested by the Government, be forwarded, and that tenders be called for the preparation of the same returnable on Tuesday, July 31st, at noon, the Chairman to open and accept tenders, and to forward same to Marine Department, by Friday's mail, August 3rd." Proposed by Mr S. Wilson, seconded by Mr R. Philips (carried), " That tenders be called for the erection of the wharf and tramway, either in sections, or the whole work sections as follows —No. 1 Tee and wharf—No 2, Buildings thereon—No. 3. and 4, tramway adjoining Tee, and its continuation to the shore, Notice to be given at once in Raglan, and upon the return of plans by the Government, advertisements to be inserted in The Waikato Times and Weekly News newspapers." Proposed by Mr S. Wilson seconded by Mr Burgess, (carried), "That the Waste Land Board be written to, requesting permission to use a portion of the totara growing upon Crown Lands near Trig Station, 1601, for the erection of the wharf." The Clerk was instructed to write to the Northern Steam Ship Company, asking what amount the Company will contribute in aid of the erection of the wharf. Mr Allan Gilmour was elected permanent chairman. Mr Crout's account, preparations of plans, etc,, were ordered to be paid, and after a vote of thanks to the chairman, the meeting closed.
