(bt telegraph—press association.) TIMARU, Friday. Vkey heavy rain fell in this district last night, and impeded the railway traffic. DDNEDIN, Friday. The Lawrence Mining Institute decline to co-operate in a testimonial to the Bon. Mr Larnach. CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Heavy showers of rain fell here to-day. The rivers in the northern districts are reported to be rising, but no serious floods are yet reported. Mr J. H. Potts, an old resident of Canterbury, dropped dead at Mrs Shirlaiid's faucy goods shop, Colombo-street, today. He was about 60 years of age Deceased was a member of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College and also, in byegone years, a member of the Provincial Council. He was one of the best naturalists in the colony, and was widely known by his series of papers entitled " Out in the Open."
