WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL

The usual monthly meeting of the Council wan held in the Council Chambers, Hamilton Bust, at 2.30 p.m. yesterday afternoon. There were present:—Crs. Primrose (chairman), Seddon, Steele, Johnson, Forrest and Smith. Mr T. G. Sandes, County Engineer, was also in attendance. Road. —Colonel Bertrand, owner of lot 434, Whangamarino, wrote asking the Council to make a road through his property, as at present he was unable to cross a swamp about two chains wide to get to part of his land. Cr. Johnson, the representative of that district, said that he would not recommend the road being formed until Col. Bertrand begun to make some improvement to his land. Rates.—The Property Tax Commissioner wrote, asking for an account of the rates collected up to June last. Naruows Bridge Account.—Mr Brooks, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Csimbride, reported that there was thesum of £3 Is lying to the credit of this account in the bank. The clerk was instructed to get the money withdrawn and pay half of it into the county fund, forwarding the other half to the Waipa County Council. Riding Account. —The Clerk read the I riding account as follows:—In credit: , Tamahere, £6 9s 10d ; Cambridge, £105 3s I Sid; Rangiriri, £275 5s 3d. In debit: Kirikiriroa, £17 0s Cd. Fainting.—The Engineer reported that the painting of the Whangamarino bridge had not been done to his satisfaction, and he would not recommend any payment on the job at this meeting. Jkfi'hies' Bridge.—The Engineer reported that the contractors had built this bridge IS inches higher than they were instructed tn, and he recommended that £5 bo withheld until the approaches are completed. Young's Road. —The following tenders were received for this road :—Sutherland and Bridge, £2S; Alex. Kiddy, £18 ; W. Thompson, £17 Gs lid. The tender of \V. Thomson, being the lowest, was accepted. Sokfackman.—On the motion of the Chairman it was resolved that all works done in the Rangiriri Riding be paid for at the rate of o.s per day.

Petition. —It was resolved to forward a petition to the House with reference to the claim against the Cambridge Borough Council for money deducted from the County subsidy on their account.

Payments.—The following accounts were passed for payment:—Surface work, Rangiriri, £23 7s ; Johnson, £1 103 ; Forrest, 10s; Smith, 10s; Reod, £17s Id ; interest on debt, £48 Is 9d; Knox, £0 7s; Sutherland and Bridge, £16 ; Dixon, £15.
