HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The adjourned meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr Isaac Coates), Crs. Knox, von Stunner, Woods, Bell, Salmon and Sandes. Nkw Councillor. —Cr. Knox introduced Mr Joseph Frear, the new member, who signed the usual declaration and took his seat. Drainage at Hamilton East.—The committee reported on the matter of drainage near the Royal Hotel at Hamilton East. —Cr. Knox moved the adoption of the Veport, and recommended that Mr Metcalfa be consulted on the matter in conjunction with Mr Sandes.—Cr. von Stunner seconded the motion, and was surprised they had never before thought of taking advantage of Mr Metcalfe's knowledge and skill in their works, and thereby saving expense for botched engineering.—Cr. Woods thought the work would be very expensive. —Cr. Bell approved of the proposal.—Cr. Salmon supported the motion. —The Mayor stated he had caused the drain to be examined, and found it in a bad state. — Motion carried.—Cr. Knox moved and Cr. Bell seconded, that the Mayor and the mover be a committee to carry out the work. —Carried. £4000 Loan.—The Clerk reported that, the time of the fixed deposit of the loan money was due, and that it was necessary to re-arrange with tho Bank for another term. —Cr. Knox moved and Cr. von Sturmer seconded, that the matter be referred to the Finance Committee— Carried. Flood Water at the Saleyards.—Cr. Knox moved that the Mayor, as chairman of the Works Committee, be authorised to take proper steps to drain the water from the saleyards by opening the hole on the opposite side of tho road.—His Worship seconded the motion. He said he thought it a matter of urgency.—Cr. Woods supported the motion, which was put and carried. This was all the business.
