TO THE EDITOR. Sin, —I see by your issue of the 19th inst. that diphtheria has broken out at Ta Awamutu, and in consequence the authorities have closed the school, and also in the same issue appears a letter from Dr. Pairman giving the information how very contagious the disease is. He tells us what to give in the way of physic, &c., and also tells us that the water drains, &c., should be looked to, but strango to say he mentions nothing about Carbolic Acid, one of the best disinfectants known. In the Waikatb ; g district (if it is not known it ought to be tor it is well advertised), we have a resident in Hamilton who has manufactured for seven years a soap known by tho name of Pearson's Carbolic Sand Soap, and, as the name implies, a great quantity of carbolic acid is used in the making of it. From testimonialsreceived from mostof tho medi- r cal profession, it is one of the best soaps in the market for keeping away fevers. &c. I think that not only should all families use it, but that the committees of Government schools should, when calling for tenders for scrubbing the floors, &c., stipulate that •< Pearson's Carbolic Sand Soap be freely used, I may state that it is ased in the Waikato Hospital, and that Dr. Kenny speaks very highly of it.
