PAYMENT OF MEMBERS

Tjie House of Commons by a majority of 57, rejected the motion of Mr Charles Fenwick, M.P. for "Wansbeck, providing for the payment of members of the House. In speaking ou the motion Mr Gladstone advocated paying the labour members. During the debate on the motion for the payment of Members Admiral Field, M.P. for Eastbourne, stated a very able man, and one of great wealth, residiug in Victoria, had told him that any number of men could be bribed in the Victorian Assembly.
